*Persuasion (1817)

Themes:

Money and Inheritance:

Laws surrounding inheritance are what put the Dashwood women in limbo at the beginning of the novel and their lack of money, compounded with their inability to work.

Gender:

There are very definite limitations involved in the society Austen describes women cannot own property, are expected to stay in the house, marry and be polite and good.
Men can decide whether or not to pursue a career if they have enough money.

Marriage:

For Marianne and Elinor , marriage is not a choice but a necessity and their need to marry expediently and well is a pressing concern in the novel,as they look for suiters.

Expectations vs Reality

This is an important theme with regard to Marianne and her mother, whose romantic characters lead them to expect greater drama or trauma than actually appears. But reality always tends to subvert expectations, whether in life or in art  ,as accidents and unexpected turns happen to everyone.

Appearance vs Reality

Pertains to character especially,as many characters in the novel present themselves as one thing, and ends up being another.Willoughby is the prime example of this,as he seems romantic, open ,and genuine but ends up exposing himself as vain ,idle, and cruel .

Discretion

Of the utmost importance in polite society, where it is not to one's advantage to let people know all that you think and feel.
Marianne's lack of discretion leads to a great deal of gossip and a very public snubbing by Willoughby, lack of discretion in many others indicates poor manners and lack of refinement.

Expectations and Disappointment

Throughout the novel many characters develop expectations based on sparse evidence or faculty perceptions, this of course leads to disappointment as reality proves very different.Joyful expectations are often dashed  by harsher turns of events,as Marianne is extremely disappointed by her expectations of being married to Willoughby ,and is pushed away.

Secrecy

Usually an indication of wrong doing on someone's part ,as is especially evident in Willoughby, his sudden unwillingness to share information with Marianne and the Dashwoods indicates mistakes made on his part .
On the other hand,as with Edward, secrecy can be a sign of discretion, though when his secret is revealed it is damaging as Willoughby 's is.

Essay :Othello play

Othello begins on a street in venice , in the midst of an argument between Roderigo a rich man and lago.
Roderigo has just learned that Desdemona has married Othello,a general whom lago begrudgingly serves as ensign. Lago says he hates Othello.

Brabanzio's plan backfires .The Duke and the senate are very sympathetic towards Othello.Given a chance to speak for himself, Othello explains that he wooed and won Desdemona not by witchcraft but with the stories of his adventures in travel and war.
The duke finds Othello 's explanation convincing and Desdemona herself enters at this point to defend her choice in marriage and to announce to her father that her allegiance is now for her husband.Brabanzio
is furious but acquiesces and allows the senate meeting to resume. The duke says that Othello must go to Cyprus to aid in the defence against Turks, who are headed for the island.Desdemona insists to accompany her husband on his trip and preparations are made for them to depart that night.

In Cyprus, Othello arrives greets his wife and announces that there will be revealing that evening to celebrate Cyprus 's safety from the Turks. Once everyone has left Roderigo complains to lago that he has no chance of breaking up Othello's marriage.Lago assures Roderigo that as soon as Desdemona's " blood is made dull with the act of sport, she will lose interest in Othello and seek sexual satisfaction elsewhere.
